THE M6 northbound is closed between junctions 18 and 19 following a serious collision. Police are asking motorists to seek an alternative route if possible.

An air ambulance has been called out, and there are long delays on the approach to the scene.

Fire engines are at the scene, and all three lanes are closed northbound while the incident is being dealt with.

Southbound is also closed to allow the air ambulance to land and take the casualty to hospital.

A fire service doctor and air ambulance crews are working to remove the casualty from one of the vehicles.

The collision involves four vehicles, one of which is a tanker carrying 27 tonnes of flour.

It is believed none of the vehicles are carrying hazardous substances.
