THE first Middlewich heritage event will take place next weekend at Murgatroyd’s Brine Pump.

This is the first event that Middlewich Heritage Trust has held since becoming leaseholders of the site. The Trust have also announced that they have secured almost three quarters of the funding for the next phase of repairs at the historic landmark.

During the weekend, the Middlewich Salt tours will run at 12 noon on both days. The guide starts from the Victoria Building, in Lewin Street, exploring the history of Middlewich, the salt routes and the connections to Cheshire industry.

Murgatroyd’s Brine Pump will be open for the first time this year, on Saturday, May 5, and Sunday, May 6.

Residents can attend the event to see what the Trust have planned for the location, explore the archives and see some of the last brine pumps in the UK.

Free public entry will start at 1pm and run until 4pm.

The site, located in Brooks Lane, have secured permission for visitors to use the Middlewich community church car park, with the short walk to the Brine Pump signposted.
