AFTER months of training, thousands of runners will be gearing themselves up for the London Marathon.

And after national reports suggest this year could be the hottest on record, we thought our local runners deserve all the support they can get.

Here's the runners we will be cheering on this year and why you should too:

Claire and Jo are both 37 and running for Teenage Cancer Trust after Claire’s daughter was diagnosed with cancer in December 2016 at the age of 12.

She was supported throughout her treatment by The Teenage Cancer Trust and as Claire’s daughter requires no further treatment, the Middlewich pair set about trying to raise as much money as possible.

Jonny Amery, from Weaverham, is running his first marathon in support of Diabetes UK.

He said: "I am supporting this charity as in the last 18 months my wife Vicki has changed her life through the support from Diabetes UK, she has been type 1 diabetic since the age of 7, and had been on 4 injections a day to control her sugar levels.

"This however was never successful and she was constantly battling everyday against her sugar levels making her day to day life impossible.

"But after meeting an old school friend for a coffee, she was told about an Animas Vibe insulin pump and was referred to Countess of Chester Hospital.

"There after consultations with a new nurse she secured funding for the insulin pump from the NHS.

"Since that day in May 2016 Vicki has completely changed her life, she is now not suffering from lows and spikes in her blood sugar, and her HBA1C is at a level of 6.

"This has given her a new lease of life, she has been able to become more active and has completed her first 5K race, several Parkruns, and recently completed a Gung-Ho obstacle course.

"This may seem like a small achievement for a normal person, but for Vicki this has been a long and very difficult journey.

"The current funding cost for a insulin pump is £5,000 per patient, I know I can't raise that total on my own, but my £1850 I am aiming to raise can pay towards one, having seen the effects these insulin pumps can have on peoples life is my motivation.

"And none of this would be possible without the research and hard work from Diabetes UK."

Simon Robinson is running for Ray of Hope which helps the maternity unit and the Neo-natal Intensive Care unit at Leighton Hospital.

He said: "It's very close to my heart as my youngest boy was born prematurely and the staff were just excellent in every way.

"I've been asking for the last five years and this time I was lucky enough to be accepted.

"I've been training a lot with the guys and girls at Run Middlewich.

"Thanks to them and my family for all the help, support and training tips for race day."
