A PRE-SCHOOL has been rated ‘good’ by Ofsted following an inspection.

Peter Pan Pre School in Queen Street, received a positive report from Ofsted, rating them as ‘good’ for effectiveness of leadership and management, quality of teaching, learning and assessment, personal development behaviour and welfare and outcomes for children.

Inspector Catherine Sharkey said: “Staff form strong partnerships with parents and they work successfully together to support all children’s good progress.

“Children are settled and secure with the caring staff who meet all their needs.”

The inspector did express some concerns with the organisation of the pre-school.

Insp Sharkey said: “At times, staff do not organise groups of children effectively to enable all children to listen and focus. Some younger children lose interest and are distracted during discussions that are unsuitable for their level of understanding and concentration.”

Addressing this issue, the report suggests that the pre school should review the organisation of large-group times to help all children to concentrate and be more involved.

Safeguarding is also considered effective by the inspector.

She said: “Staff understand how to protect children from harm. They have a thorough understanding of what to do should they have any concerns regarding a child's welfare and they know how to respond to an allegation against themselves.”
