WARMINGHAM Lane could be set for another 90 homes if developers get their way.

Seddon Construction and Clarion Homes hope to build 10 properties for social housing, plus 16 two-bedroom houses, 40 three-bedroom houses and 24 four-bedroom houses for the open market.

The developers have submitted a planning application to Cheshire East Council to build the homes, which would be accessed from Warmingham Lane and come with parking space for a total of 178 cars, on land south of Inglewood Avenue.

In their planning application, the developers said: "The scheme will provide much-needed housing to this area of Cheshire, with a mixed tenure of affordable and market housing and flats to cater to a variety of customers.

"Best endeavours have been made to minimise the impact on existing residents."

If approved, the scheme would add to the 1,100 new homes either recently-built or planned for on land off Warmingham Lane.

Cllr Michael Parsons, CEC member for Middlewich, told the Guardian that he believes the area's infrastructure would struggle to cope with more housing.

"There is so much housing going down Warmingham Lane now, which at the end of the day is just a B-road," he said.

"I just don't understand how they can see what is happening with the town's infrastructure, and then allow it to carry on."

Cllr Jonathan Parry, a Labour member of Middlewich Town Council, lives close to the area earmarked for development and shares Cllr Parson's concerns.

"We've been absolutely overwhelmed in that area, it is ridiculously busy as it is," he said.

"The area was not designed to take this volume of traffic. The roundabout is an accident waiting to happen, and because it is a long, straight road, people drive too fast down it.

"The people I feel sorry for are those who bought homes in the current development. They didn't know other housing developments were being built there – they thought they would have green fields to look at."

Consultation on the scheme is open until February 15, before the proposal is expected to be discussed by CEC's southern planning committee on April 4.
