WHILE most of us would agree that flying is not the highlight of any holiday, for some it can put a stop to relaxing getaways altogether.

Thousands live with a chronic fear of flying, keeping them grounded during the summer with the thought of even boarding a plane too stressful to bear.

But, after a break of six years, British Airways’ ‘Flying with Confidence’ course is now returning to Manchester Airport to help get people back in the air.

The course has helped more than 50,000 people control their fear of flight, boasting a 98 per cent success rate through a combination of technical explanations, psychological tips and a 30-minute practice flight.

Returning to Manchester on February 24, the course will be run by British Airways Captain Steve Allright and First Officer Jai Dillon.

The day includes sessions with highly experienced British Airways pilots explaining the technical side of flying and common concerns such as turbulence, as well as expert advice from a clinical psychologist on relaxation techniques, and managing anxiety.

Travel experts and air traffic controllers will also be on hand to answer questions, before the day culminates in a 30-minute flight on a British Airways aircraft from Manchester Airport.

Captain Steve Allright said: "It's an amazing privilege to be a part of helping determined people to achieve their goals.

“As professional pilots we love flying and want to share that with as many people as possible. A New Year is the perfect time to plan a summer holiday and we’d like to help as many people as possible jet off on their dream trip this year.”

First Officer Jai Dillon said: “It is very exciting that the course is returning to Manchester, which was always my local airport and somewhere I have such a personal connection.

“We want to help people who have been disadvantaged because of their fear of flying and it is our aim to create more of a presence throughout the UK and reach out to people who genuinely suffer with this irrational fear.”

The course costs £259 for the full day, including the charter flight on a modern British Airways Embraer 190 jet.
