A JAZZ musician inspired by TV show The Simpsons is hoping to captivate Davenham audiences tonight.

Phil Meadows, from Bolton, will perform at the theatre in Church Street as part of a UK wide tour prior to recording a third studio album with band members Michael De Souza, Joe Downard and Jay Davis.

The 27-year-old has won a host of awards in his career including the Parliamentary Jazz Newcomer of the Year, London Music Awards Rising Jazz Star and Peter Whittingham Jazz Award.

Phil said: “I’ve had quite a lot of family move close to the area and I’ve played in Davenham before so it’s a place I’m looking forward to revisiting.

“I just remember it was a nice warm crowd who really like their jazz.

“We really want to captivate audiences this time around. I’m quite into my politics but I believe this tour is about bringing people together and showing that although all opinions differ we can still get on.

“Music is a great way to do that.”

Phil’s passion for jazz started when as a 12-year-old when he watched a clip of The Simpsons’ Lisa Simpson perform a duet with musician Bleeding Gums Murphy.

He added: “I just remember decided there and then that is exactly what I want to do. So my dad and I took up Saxophone at the same time and we’re both still playing today.

“I think jazz has had a resurgence in recent years which has been helped a lot by big Hollywood films such as La La Land and Whiplash.

“But the age we live in now means people are constantly stumbling across new artists online and the genre is thriving because of that.”

Phil’s influences for his latest album in Donnie McCaslin, Tigran and Bill Laurence.
