BUDDING James Bonds from a Winsford primary school spent three days learning spy skills in the Peak District.

Pupils from Oak View in Whitby’s Lane cracked codes, abseiled from bridges and scaled rock faces as part of an educational residential stay in Ravenstor, Buxton.

The aim of the trip was to teach the children a new range of skills while enjoying the opportunity to get outdoors and active.

Amy Richardson, an Oak View teacher, said: “It was fantastic and really capture their imaginations.

“The children got into the roles with such enthusiasm and I was very proud of what they achieved.

“Some of the tasks were really difficult but it was brilliant for their confidence and they all really pushed themselves.”

Year 5 pupils were called upon to navigate their way across challenging terrain in a pitch0black orienteering adventure. They also built rafts and sailed on the waters.

Head teacher Fiona Rimmer believes it is important that the school is able to open up new experiences to children in addition to their regular curriculum.

She said: “As well as getting the results in the classroom we’re able to provide other ways of delivering our vision of opening children’s eyes to a world of possibility.

“By approaching learning in this holistic way we see them flourish in confidence and ability in all areas and, ultimately, improve their life chances in the future.”
