A FLY tipper is facing prosecution after a litter picking group found evidence identifying them in their rubbish.

Janet Chisholm, committee member of Middlewich Clean Team, was made aware of the incident on Monday, November 6 after a dog walker came across piles of waste in Town Wharf that had been illegally dumped there.

It was reported to and removed by Cheshire East Council who has confirmed that legal action will proceed against the culprit.

Stephen Dent, Middlewich Clean Team chairman, said: “The group is always keen to prevent fly tipping. We are aware it is a bad problem and we will attempt to solve it any way we can.

“The incident in Town Wharf is isolated for that area but we welcome the reporting of any evidence that will help lead to a prosecution.

“Flying tipping has become a particularly bad problem around Warmingham and Cledford Lane, and it is something that has been noticed over the past three or four years.

“Is has got so bad that you can remove an abandoned sofa, come back the next day and there will be a similar one there.

“All our members always report incidents like this, but this shows that reporting it does work and warns potential offenders that there are people on the lookout.”

Middlewich Clean Team is also exploring the idea of planting covert CCTV cameras in the town’s worst affected areas.

A CEC spokesman said: “The council takes fly-tipping very seriously and is currently driving forward a very robust campaign to keep our borough clean of fly-tipping and to advise residents that where possible offenders will be prosecuted.

“In this instance there appears to be evidence of who may have been responsible and the information has been passed to our Community Enforcement Team to consider prosecution."

Fly-tipping, dropping litter and dog fouling are all environmental crimes which can be reported online at cheshireeast.gov.uk/norubbishexcuses or by calling 0300 123 5011.
