MORE than 1,200 visitors have helped raise a massive £6,000 at a children’s charity open day.

The Children’s Adventure Farm Trust opened up the Millington farm for the 16th annual family fun day on September 24, with patrons Jason Manford and John Thomson joining in the celebrations.

Joined by TV presenter Jenny Powell, the comedians got stuck in hooking ducks, knocking down coconuts and winning tombola prizes along with guests, stopping to chat and pose for photos.

DJ Mark Blackman oversaw proceedings, guiding visitors through a packed programme of entertainment while Stockley Farm’s furry friends were available to pet and the 99th Garrison’s Stormtroopers helped to keep order.

Community fundraiser Rob Bashforth said: “This was such a fantastic day which was so well supported, we were delighted to be joined by so many visitors.

“We were especially delighted to be reunited with many of the fantastic children who have stayed with us this year, all of whom were so excited to visit the farm again with their families and carers.

“The weather was perfect and everyone had a wonderful time. We were overwhelmed with the support of local people, businesses and groups who made it a huge success.

“All of the money raised on the day will help us to change the lives of countless children who are in desperate need of a break.”

The trust, which relies on donations, offers holidays and getaways for terminally ill, chronically sick, disabled and disadvantaged children and their families.

Along with members of CAFT, an army of volunteers from organisations such as the Knutsford Hosts and Altrincham Rotary helped orchestrate activities.

The school sports day saw a group of young guests overcome a classic Massey Ferguson tractor in a tug of war competition, while CAFT’s very own Bobby won the mascot race against competitors from Manchester City, Stockley Farm, The Joshua Tree and Warrington Wolves.
