A RANGE of 1930s-style railway posters promoting the attractions of the Mid Cheshire Railway Line have gone on display, with Knutsford one of the towns featured.

The exhibition at the Lion Salt Works Museum launched on Friday, August 4, with rail enthusiast and Cheshire resident Pete Waterman joining representatives including deputy mayor of Knutsford Cllr Peter Coan at the event.

Knutsford’s famous Gaskell Memorial Tower – accompanied by King Street’s colourful bunting and the Cross Keys pub – makes up one of 14 posters commissioned by the Mid Cheshire Community Rail Partnership and on show until September 3.

Cllr Coan said: “This is an imaginative and beautiful exhibition that really shows the diversity of attractions available on the Mid-Cheshire railway line.

“I am delighted by the poster of Knutsford which captures two of the town’s most iconic buildings and I am not surprised to hear that the exhibition has attracted so much interest.

“I wish the Mid Cheshire Community Rail Partnership every success in achieving its aim of getting people ‘out and about’ in Cheshire.”

The posters encourage tourism and travel along the line, depicting in vibrant, blocky colours the attractions that lie beyond the line.

Mr Waterman said: "My first job was on the railways and I loved every minute of it.

"What’s more this passion for trains and railways has remained with me and is still a huge part of my life.

"As a Cheshire resident and now deputy Lord Lieutenant it is therefore a double pleasure to be invited to open this wonderful new railway poster exhibition.

"Vibrant and bright, these posters really capture people’s attention and imagination.

"I hope everyone who dreams of a day out on the train will start by coming to see this free exhibition at the Lion Salt Works Museum.”

Posters can be purchased at the Northwich museum in A3 and A2 size for £5.00 and £10.00, respectively.

Postcards sets will also be available of 12 posters. Call Sally Buttifant on 01244 976788 or 0773 652 3863 for more information.
