A MIDDLEWICH school has been praised for achieving its vision of being ‘united in achieving excellence’.

Wimboldsley Primary School, in Nantwich Road, was rated ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted in a report published on July 21.

The report said that the school’s vision ‘could not be more appropriate’ as leaders, staff and pupils have worked exceptionally well together to ensure it is an outstanding school.

Inspector Neil Dixon wrote: “Life at Wimsboldsley is underpinned by a particularly strong culture of mutual support and respect.

“The school’s curriculum is rich and engaging. Pupils enjoy learning, because teachers skilfully plan activities that take account of their needs and interests.

“There is a very high level of care and nurture throughout the school, and pupils have total confidence that staff will help them if they have any problems.

“One parent said that the level of care was so high that children view the school as an extension of their family.

“Children in early years make a great start to their school careers. By the time they leave Key Stage 2, the proportion of pupils achieving the expected standards is well above the national average.”

Pupils were also praised for their outstanding behaviour and positive attitudes to learning.

Inspector Dixon wrote: “Pupils’ behaviour around school and on the playground is exemplary and they are polite, friendly and welcoming to visitors.

“Very few pupils regularly miss school. This clearly illustrates how much pupils enjoy coming to school.”

The school achieved the highest standard in all six categories of inspection. These were overall effectiveness, leadership, teaching quality, development, outcomes and early years provision.

The only area the school is required to improve on is the proportion of children exceeding the expected standard of writing by the end of early years.

The inspector observed teaching and learning in the school. He also held discussions with pupils and met with a group of five governors.
