A COUPLE were left terrified after being chased by a man with an axe.

Lisa and Gary Crumplin were threatened by the driver of a yellow transit van after an altercation at a road junction.

The couple were driving through Warmingham Lane when they got into a disagreement with the van driver after his vehicle cut them up.

They pulled up alongside the van to speak to the driver – but he got out and threatened them with an axe. There was a passenger with him at the time.

Lisa and Gary drove off before the situation escalated.

The incident happened on Monday, June 26 at 9.30pm.

Lisa said: “We had a disagreement on the road so I stopped to ask what the problem was.

“All of a sudden Gary told me to put my foot down because one of the men had stepped out of the van with an axe.

“I was so shocked at the time and just wanted to get away as quickly as possible but if Gary wasn’t there I don’t really know what I would have done.

“It wasn’t normal behaviour. To react like that doesn’t make sense and it was absolutely frightening.

“We’ve spoken to friends and neighbours, and they’ve mentioned that people of a similar description have been causing trouble in the town.

“Once upon a time this type of thing wouldn’t have happened. I dread to think if anyone else had to deal with this.”

A Cheshire Police spokesperson said: “Officers were called to reports that a couple had been followed by a yellow transit style van.

“Officers attended the scene and conducted a thorough search of the local area but were unable to locate the van.

“Investigations into the incident are currently ongoing.”
