CHESHIRE Police is urging parents to ensure child safety when using the internet this summer.

Youngsters spend more time online during the holidays, so officers have prepared some tips for parents whose children use the web.

Cheshire Police want to help parents protect their children from becoming victims of online bullying, accessing inappropriate content or sharing too much personal information.

DS Brian Faint, from Cheshire Police’s economic crime unit, said: “Understandably there are so many things parents have to think about.

“But I can’t stress enough how important it is to check children are using the internet safely and securely.

“If parents take the time to follow some of the online safety advice it can make a big difference in protecting them from any harm.”

Tips include talking regularly with your child about their online lives, using parent controls on devices, being aware of mood changes and checking social networking age limits.
