MIDDLEWICH fire station is holding an open day.

On Saturday, June 17 from 10am to 4pm the fire station will be opening to the public as part of the FAB Festival.

Firefighters will be on hand to show people around the fire engine and give them an insight into its equipment, which includes specialist cutting tools and rescue gear.

There will also be a number of vehicles on display in the drill yard including a fully restored vintage fire engine.

Tony McCourt, station manager, said: “Although boat fires are less common than fires on land, when they do occur, they can have devastating consequences.

“We want to make sure both resident boat owners and visitors to the festival stay safe.

“The Folk and Boat Festival builds on the town’s industrial heritage in which canal boats were used to move coal and other raw materials and it is estimated that 30,000 people visit the town during the festival weekend.

“So keeping those people safe is paramount to the service.”

Everyone is welcome to the event.
