AN arsonist has been slammed after an attack at Middlewich Town Football Club.

In the early hours of Saturday, June 10, a offender scaled a fence and set fire to a number of cones, wheelie bins and tables in the main stand of the Finney’s Lane ground.

The main pitch sprinkler was also broken.

Steve Morris, chairman of Middlewich Town Football Club, said: “I think it happened between 11.30pm and 2.30am.

“The problem with what they’ve burnt is that it just ended up being a molten heap of plastic on the floor of the stand, which was really difficult to clean up.

“Thankfully we’ve got volunteers who dedicate their time to the club, “We found the damage at 11am on Saturday and it took a good couple of hours to clean what we could.

“We do have an image from CCTV that shows someone around the ground.

“It comes from the pitch and then you can see them going back the other way. “It doesn’t give away too much but we’ve passed it on to the police.

“We want the person who has done this to know we’re aware of them and hope that they never come back to the ground again.

“It is just mindless criminal damage.”

Anyone with any information in relation to the incident is asked to contact Cheshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 687 of 10 June 2017.
