BOROUGH chiefs are standing in solidarity with London after the city’s terrorist attack on Saturday.

Seven people were killed and 49 injured after three attackers drove into pedestrians on London Bridge and stabbed people in Borough Market.

Cheshire East Council leader Cllr Rachel Bailey has been joined by Cllr Sam Corcoran, the council’s Labour leader, Cllr Rod Fletcher, Liberal Democrat leader, and Cllr Barry Burkhill, leader of the independent group, in paying tribute to the victims of the attack.

In a joint statement issued today, June 5, they said: “Our thoughts and prayers go out to all those who have lost loved ones and have been affected in other ways by this terrorist attack.

“The attack in London, on Saturday night, was both pointless and horrific.

“We will be writing to civic leaders in London to express our own and the borough’s condolences.

“In east Cheshire, all council buildings will fly flags at half-mast and we would urge businesses that have their own flags to do the same.

“We would also urge all residents and businesses to be vigilant. If people see anything suspicious, they should report it to the police.

“The council will continue to work with partners and communities to seek to ensure the safety of our residents.”

CEC will join the national minute’s silence at 11am tomorrow, June 6.

Residents are invited to join CEC members and staff outside Westfields, in Sandbach, Macclesfield Town Hall and Memorial Square, in Crewe.

Cllr Arthur Moran, mayor of east Cheshire, added: “I would echo the words of the leaders of CEC. This is a very sad time.

“I would also like to pay tribute to the emergency services and medical staff who responded in such a heroic way.”
