FIREFIGHTERS were last night tackling a large fire involving rubbish at the former Cheshire Lounge pub, just off the A556 Chester Road in Millington.

One fire engine from Knutsford attended the scene, extinguishing the 10ft by 15ft pile of burning rubbish using a hose reel jet.

The crew attended just after 9pm yesterday, May 30.

A Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “An uncontrolled burning of rubbish was extinguished by firefghters using a hose reel.

“The fire is believed to have been rubbish which had been fly tipped and measured approximately 10 foot by 15 foot wide.”

The fire, made up of suspected fly-tipped rubbish, is the second such incident at the disused pub in six weeks.

On April 21, a crew from Wilmslow tackled a rubbish fire outside the building.
