A 72-YEAR-OLD Hough woman had her handbag stolen from her car while visiting a relative's grave.

The incident, which took place in Badger Avenue on Monday, May 23 between 2.25pm and 2.45pm, has led to police appealing for witnesses.

A man described as being around 5ft 8ins or 5ft 9ins tall and of slim build is said to have stolen the bag from the woman's bag before fleeing when challenged by her.

He was wearing a brown baseball cap and beige jacket.

PC Charlesworth said: “This was a heartless theft on a vulnerable elderly woman who has been left exceptionally shaken and upset by the incident.

"She was at the cemetery to pay her respects to a loved one and change the flowers on the grave – only to return to see somebody stealing her handbag from her vehicle.

“I want to trace the person responsible for this cold-hearted and malicious act. I would urge the public to come forward with any information they may have to help us with our investigation.”
