A GROUP of creative writers in Knutsford have seen their work published in a collection of short stories.

Titbits & Topsyturvies, a collection of memoirs by the Knutsford Writers, has been compiled by group leader and publisher Sarah Leigh, with a launch event taking place next Thursday night to celebrate the occasion.

The book will be on sale at Knutsford Library next Thursday, June 8, with the launch taking place between 6pm and 7pm to celebrate the Writers’ achievements since first meeting in 2015.

Sarah wrote in the book’s introduction: “Inspired by recording family stories told by my great uncle, and by heling to edit my late father-in-law’s memoirs about escaping the Nazis in Poland, I was struck by how important it is to reflect on our experiences and preserve first-hand accounts for future generations.

“I first ran a memoir writing group in 2009 but then took an M.A. in Creative Writing before eventually starting up the current Knutsford Writers group, initially at Knutsford Heritage Centre.

“We have members at all stages of the writing experience, and everyone has risen to the challenges I have offered them.

“The stories in this anthology cover everything from love and friendship to loss and survival.

“They are told vividly, with honesty and humour, offering the reader a chance to connect with the emotional and spiritual jounreys these writers have lived through.”

Tales include recollections of Knutsford May Day, the authors’ childhoods and experiences from as far afield as Burma and Trinidad & Tobago.

The group’s age range spans five decades, and authors published in the collection are Jan Elstub, Alan Watson, Joy Billingham, Sheila Lea, Freda Preston, Jean Duncalf, Edmund Burrows, Enid Leigh, Ruby Chaterjee and editor Sarah herself.

All are welcome to attend next Thursday’s event, where copies will cost £5.
