AS the May Day celebrations were tailing off on Saturday evening, Knutsfordians past and present gathered on The Moor for a reunion.

The second such event, organised by Tommy Raistrick in association with Remembering Knutsford, saw more than 100 people come together from across the country and beyond to reminisce about May Days past.

Tommy, who now lives in Portsmouth, took part in the procession as a boy and was inspired to organise the event after a Facebook post two years ago.

He said: “It started up on Remembering Knutsford – someone said it would be great if we all got together, so I thought ‘what a good idea’ and I go started.

“A lot of people who have passed away are remembered on the banners, and it’s a nice things to leave messages and memories.

“I have done all this from Portsmouth. I took part ever since I was a kid, and it’s all about everyone getting together – these are people I haven’t seen since school.

“It’s tradition that keeps people coming back, and it’s nice to see all these people. We had 250 people last year.”

More than 100 people signed a guestbook on Saturday, with others writing messages on banners which featured photos and stories of past years.

Tommy says that next year will be the last reunion he organises, before banners are donated to Knutsford Heritage Centre.
