A POTATO spillage has caused mile-long tailbacks on the A556 at Plumley today, after a spud-carrying lorry crashed into a barrier and shed its load.
The incident was reported to police at 10.20am today, Wednesday, after the HGV collided with the barrier near the Smoker Inn and spilt hundreds of potatoes.
Both of the southbound lanes were initially closed due to the obstruction, with police and Highways staff in attendance.
One lane has since reopened, but queues of around a mile remain.

The Guardian would like to point out that the Midas Transport lorry pictured in the video was not the vehicle carrying the potatoes.
