THE majority of Middlewich residents believe the town has serious problems with its transport links.

A consultation led by Cheshire East Council between August and September 2016 found that residents feel the town has problems with roads, public transport and cyclist and pedestrian safety.

Seventy-nine per cent of people agreed that there are severe road issues due to congestion caused by HGVs.

On public transport, 48 per cent of respondents felt the bus services to be too infrequent.

Thirty-nine per cent also felt that Middlewich has a serious problem with pedestrian safety because of narrow pavements.

Cllr Mike Parsons, CEC ward member, said: “There was very little that was surprising in the report as these are all issues that have come up time and time again.

“The lack of bus services is an issue.

“In one discussion I’ve had it’s been mentioned that instead of looking at existing services we need to start a clean sheet of paper and think again.

“Pedestrian safety is another, the safety routes to school scheme was stopped but that doesn’t stop us talking about it.

“Middlewich should be getting the same consideration as elsewhere in the borough.”

In total, 516 people completed the questionnaire with ratings given on a scale of one to five, one being no problem and five being a serious problem.

Cheshire East Council has said that results of the consultation will be considered in the development of a local transports strategy for Middlewich.
