AN agreement has been made to replace the dog bins along the canal.

Middlewich Clean Team met with the Canal and Rivers Trust and struck an agreement for the latter to install new dog bins after the old ones were unfit for purpose.

The bins, used for domestic and dog waste, were deemed not big enough to cater for both types of rubbish.

They would often overflow, leading people to dump waste elsewhere.

Ansa, Cheshire East Council’s arms-length company, had installed larger bins on nearby highways, but this had not done enough.

Canal and Rivers Trust will also use its own contractor to empty the bins more regularly.

Stephen Dent, Middlewich Clean Team, said: “The clean team has done a superb job tidying the area and making this agreement.

“Ansa have been involved for some time but it’s not their responsibility to supply or empty the bins and it’s not the clean teams either.

“But we’re delighted that we’ve managed to find a solution to this problem.”

A survey will now be undertaken to ask where residents would most like the bins to be situated before a further meeting in May.

Middlewich Clean Team held its latest litter pick on Saturday, April 22 with a turnout of 19 and the addition of two new members.

The group will next meet at Tesco car park on Monday, May 8 in preparation for the visit of Green Flag Award judges.
