MORE than £16,500 has been raised in support of people living with motor neurone disease during an evening of fine dining and music at Arley Hall.

Viscount Michael Ashbrook, the MND Association’s Cheshire branch patron, welcomed more than 50 supporters and volunteers as he hosted the event.

Guests enjoyed a drinks reception and dinner before Dr Brian Dickie, director of research development at the MND Association, gave a presentation on the treatments being explored for the disease.

The evening also included a raffle, with prizes donated by businesses and George Osborne MP.

Lord Ashbrook, who has been patron of the Cheshire branch for 15 years, said: “During my time as patron I have met and talked to a number of people living with MND, and their experiences have made a profound impression on me.

“Of the various terrible afflictions and disabilities which can strike people unexpectedly this seems to be to be one of the very worst.

“I am delighted the evening was successful in raising this fantastic total.”
