A TEENAGER from Winsford has been referred to a youth offender panel after being caught twice with an arsenal of knives and offensive weapons.

The 15-year-old, who cannot be named due to his age, appeared in Crewe Youth Court on Wednesday, March 22.

The court in Crewe heard that he was found by police with a group of other youths at Fountain Fields Park on February 4, after they responded to several reports of anti-social behaviour.

Police stopped him and found that he was carrying a bag containing a claw hammer and two kitchen knives.

He resisted arrest and needed to be restrained in handcuffs while he screamed obscenities at police officers.

He was then found again on Tesco car park in Middlewich on February 21, while on bail for the first offence.

This time he was found to be carrying a bag containing a kitchen knife, a Stanley knife, and a crowbar.

He pleaded guilty to each offence in February, but the court decided not to sentence him at that point, due to the seriousness of the offences.

Judge Ann Calder said last month: “These are very serious matters and therefore we feel we need a report to be made to find out more. We’re very concerned about where these knives are coming from and why you’re carrying them.”

He appeared again last week for sentencing and was referred to a youth offender panel.

This means he will have to attend meetings with a youth offender team for a period of 10 months.
