MIDDLEWICH Primary School kicked-off its science week on March 20 with an assembly aimed at making the subject fun.
Led by a QA supply manager from AstraZeneca and local STEM ambassador, the pupils were treated to a morning of practical experiments to broaden their minds on how science works daily.
There were three experiments in all that mixed various chemicals together to create different events.
The biggest round of applause was given to the ‘rocket blast’, which mixed baking soda and vinegar to make carbon dioxide, the subsequent reaction catapulted a make-shift rocket into the air.
Kate Parsons and Anna Main, both AstraZeneca employees, said: “it’s important for the children to be inquisitive and see things through a different perspective.
“It’s also great us to be doing this as women and hopefully it will inspire some children and now make them think science is fun.”
British Science Week is a national event but grassroots celebration of science that aims to organise high profile events to promote the subject.
