SOME of Middlewich High School’s most talented musicians took part in Sir John Deane’s Battle of the Bands last Thursday

Two groups from the school took part in the competition - now in its fourth year - and it proved tough as there were no separate categories for high school and college bands.

Facepalm Mute, consisting of Elliott Stanley on guitar and Caleb Grierson on drums, intended to play an original piece, but due to Caleb injuring himself at the beginning of the week, Filipa Lamb-Viera was drafted in on vocals and an acoustic cover of Porcupine Tree’s Shallow was performed with Caleb on cajon.

Jack Hayward and Noah Curran performed an untitled original acoustic guitar duet which led them to be highly commended by the judges.

The competition was won by The Window Tourists from Sir John Deane’s College.
