THE winner of Business of the Year at the Middlewich Oscars has been recognised for ‘injecting life, vitality and prosperity’ to the high street.

Amanda Dolan, owner of Cups and Cakes in Wheelock Street, won the award for improving the town centre with her shop which helped to stimulate growth and regeneration in the area.

She recieved the award at the town's annual Oscars evening on Friday, March 3, where 12 community members won in various categories for their work.

The mum-of-six praised the community spirit in Middlewich as a reason for her recent success.

Amanda said: “It was a wonderful evening and I was overwhelmed.

“When I opened the business it was a huge leap of faith so for it to be going so well and to win an award is fantastic.”

Amanda financed Cups and Cakes through her own personal savings after training as a confectionist.

The business has evolved over the time it has been open, and now hosts a variety of regular events such as councillor surgeries, ‘knit and natter’ sessions with the U3A and the Makers Market.

Jonathan Williams, Middlewich Town Council clerk, said: "The quality of the product, the fare, the quality of the fixtures and fittings has contributed greatly to the success of the business.

"Now we are attempting to create a new branding of Middlewich as a food and drink quality destination."
