MIDDLEWICH held its annual Oscars last week to acknowledge the work of its selfless community stalwarts.

The event was held on Friday, March 3 at Middlewich Town Hall, and the 12 where were presented awards recognised a range of achievements by members of the community.

David and Yvonne Moore, who have fostered more than 80 children, received the coveted Mayor’s Special Award, being recognised for offering a loving family to every child.

The pair were recognised for showering every child with love, attention, care, security and a sense of worth in being given a family.

Cllr Bernice Walmsley said: “Last week’s Oscars proved, yet again, what a lovely town Middlewich is.

“Each time the winners show us that there are lots of people doing excellent things for other people in the town.”

Other winners were Stephen Dent (Volunteer of the Year), Wendy Lomas (Local Hero), Geoff Williams (Community Service), Geoff and Salli Page (Heritage and Respect), Aidan Devaney Butchers (Quality of Service), Cup and Cakes (Business of the Year), Jake Humphreys (Young Person of the Year), Amy Boon (Excellence in Education), Phil Latham and Ian Hill-Smith (Music Arts and Culture), Sheila Crawley (Senior Citizen) and Jackie Latham (Young Person’s Champion).

The awards were sponsored by an array of local businesses and public services. These included Royal British Legion, Middlewich High School, Bare Bones Marketing and SP Energy Networks.
