A CRANAGE gym has put on a ‘Ninja Warrior’-style course for kids to keep them active during the half term break.

Active Fitness owner Mark Milward came up with the idea after one of the gym’s instructors, Great Britain ladies’ American Football captain Phoebe Schecter, took part in season two of the ITV show last year.

Mark said the session on Friday, February 24 is part of the gym’s wider ambitions to increase children’s participation in sports, getting them outside and away from their tablets, phones and laptop screens.

The event sold out within 24 hours, and activities on the day didn’t disappoint the 31 eager participants.

He said: “We do quite a lot of kids’ classes, but sometimes they aren’t really that well attended and I needed to find a new angle.

“One of our coaches went on the show last year and did the course. I spoke to her, and because all the kids remember her being on it we decided to use her to do a similar thing for the kids.

“The first time around [in January] we did three sessions with 25 kids in each, and on Friday during half term we decided to do a longer four-hour session.

“It’s just giving them something different and something they can relate to. It’s more exciting than normal kids’ classes – we had them rope climbing and swinging from bars, before an obstacle course at the end.

“It’s just getting them moving, that’s the important thing. It went down a treat and they got a wristband and certificate at the end as well.”

Mark added that the idea will continue during upcoming school holidays, with the next session lined up for Friday, April 7. Email Active Fitness at info@activefitnesscheshire.co.uk for more information and to book a place.
