TRAFFIC has come to a standstill after a lorry spilled 'fluid' on the M6 slip road at Junction 19 for Knutsford.
Firefighters were called to the scene just before 10am this morning after reports of an 'overturned lorry' on the slip road from the M6 northbound up towards Knutsford.
Crews have confirmed that the lorry has not overturned but a fluid spillage has caused them to close the roundabout at Junction 19 resulting in major delays on the northbound carriage and the A556 southbound towards Knutsford.
Delays stretch back past junction 18 at Middlewich on the northbound carriageway.
The Environment Agency is now investigating the incident, with some reports suggesting that the liquid is hydrochloric acid.
Highways Agency estimates that the traffic will return to normal by 1pm.
