FIRE cadets in Middlewich have been recognised for their fundraising efforts, winning a county-wide accolade.

For the first time, the Middlewich cadets have been awarded Cheshire County Royal British Legion’s Youth Endeavour Award in recognition of their support for the Poppy Appeal.

Awarded most years since 1984, the Middlewich group was named winners at the Royal British Legion Cheshire county conference at Daresbury Park Hotel in January.

They were then presented with the award – a shield commemorating all previous winners across more than three decades – by RBL Middlewich branch chairman and town councillor Ken Kingston at Middlewich fire station last week.

Cllr Kingston said: “I was really pleased that the county conference appreciated the hard work of the cadets and cadet leaders, as well as the time they give up, to collect funds in aid of the Poppy Appeal – the Legion’s charity. Well-deserved congratulations are due to Middlewich Fire Cadets.”

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service took to Twitter to post its congratulations to the cadets – and its near-35,000 followers – after the presentation was made.

The tweet read: “We’re very proud of Middlewich Fire Cadets being awarded the Youth Endeavour trophy for their help and support collecting for the RBL.”

Middlewich Cadet Unit meets at the station in Civic Way each Tuesday between 6.30pm and 8.30pm.
