A NEW group has been set up to serve as a contact point for Middlewich cyclists.

The ‘Bike Middlewich’ Facebook group brings together cyclists, who can share routes, seek advice or find others of a similar ability.

Set up following the success of a similar group for runners of all abilities, Bike Middlewich now has more than 100 members – and all are welcome.

Trevor Bowker, the group’s creator, said: “If we would have had three or four responses we would have been pleased, and we didn’t expect it to take off like it did.

“We wanted it to be a bit like a community page, open to everybody to post their ideas. People can find others who are riding at their level and then just go along together.

“The idea came about from the Run Middlewich group – some of them biked as well and we thought ‘why not’, especially at this time of year when everyone is looking at their fitness.

“It’s just to spread the word. There are clubs out there for people, and this is just somewhere to post some rides and see if anyone wants to come along.

“I have had people message me, asking ‘do you mind if I post this route’ – you don’t have to ask permission!”

As well as serving as a contact point and message board for Middlewich cyclists to get out and about and share their favourite rides, the group has seen a number of organised cycles events.

There is something for everyone, with long and short distance sessions undertaken on and off road.

The group can be found by searching ‘Bike Middlewich’ on Facebook.
