MIDDLEWICH Primary School pupils who spent a week learning about Parliament were treated to a surprise visit by Fiona Bruce MP.

Students took part in Parliament Week in November, learning more about how British democracy works and the role of Parliament.

As one of 270 similar events across the country, Congleton MP Fiona dropped in the Park Road school to speak to Year 5 and Year 6 students and oversee a debate.

Fiona said “I was very impressed with how much the pupils at Middlewich Primary School had learnt about the democratic process and that the quality of the debates and discussions which they held.

“I hope that this will have stimulated their interest to be involved in politics when they grow up and that, in particular, they will all use their votes.”

Gemma Reynolds, deputy headteacher, added: “We were very privileged to welcome Fiona Bruce to Middlewich Primary School.

“She shared her first hand experiences of government with us and gave the Year 5 and 6 pupils a detailed talk on how laws are created and enforced.

“Mrs Bruce was very engaging and the children were keen to ask questions and develop their knowledge further.”
