A PURSE containing an elderly couple’s wedding rings that were left in a Sproston pub were returned to their owners thanks to an appeal by staff.

Maxine Linas at the Fox and Hounds in Sproston contacted the Middlewich Guardian on November 11, in the hopes of finding the owners of a purse which was left behind on October 31 containing sentimental items and keys.

The post was shared around Cheshire by Guardian readers, and eventually seen by a family member who contacted the pub and collected the purse on November 18.

Maxine said: “It was her granddaughter who got in touch via Facebook.

“She just messaged to tell us that she had seen the post on Facebook and gave a description of the purse and obviously it matched what we had.

“She said ‘thank you so much’ and that her grandmother was delighted. They came in that day and dropped off a box of chocolates to say thank you.

“I was working on the day it was left, and because we knew they were old we were very concerned. We were really happy that we managed to return them.

“Thank you to everyone who shared the post of Facebook, because she wouldn’t have got it back without that.”
