DISCOVER more about Middlewich’s waterway heritage with a trip inside a Trent and Mersey Canal lock chamber.
Lock 72, near Middlewich Community Church and Middlewich Narrowboats, will be open to the public on Saturday, November 26 as part of a Canal and River Trust open day.
The lock will be drained as part of the Trust’s essential winter maintenance programme, which will see the bottom gates replaced and masonry within the chamber repaired. The navigation closed on Monday until December 10.
Appropriate footwear is a must, and dogs will not be allowed into the lock chamber.
Canal and River Trust engineers will be on hand to explain more about the work that is currently being undertaken, as well as the history of the site and the 200-year-old canal.
There is no need to book, simply turn up on the day between 10am and 4pm. The approximate postcode is CW10 9BD.
