THE Middlewich Community Trust is seeking residents’ support as it raises funds towards repairing the Victoria Hall roof.

The trust recently took over running of the building from the town council, and say it needs vital repair work having been largely untouched since its construction in 1969.

Hosting regular events such as bowls, baby sensory classes, table top sales and pantomimes, it is the largest community facility of its kind in Middlewich and caters for a wide range of interests.

It is an annex to the Victoria Buildings, which opened in 1898 as part of the celebrations for Queen Victoria’s diamond jubilee.

Cllr Bernice Walmsley, chair of the trust, said: “The Victoria Hall serves an important function to the community of Middlewich, and we are determined to raise the funds and carry out the vital roof works ideally before winter kicks in.

“The Victoria Hall is there for the whole Middlewich community, and we hope that everyone recognises the importance and plays their part in helping the community trust to raise funds.”

This is the first fundraising effort under the new ownership of the trust, which hopes to use income generated through events, donations and sponsorships to run the hall as a self-sustained building.

While already hosting a range of events, it is hoped that the hall will gradually evolve into a much more modern space with a new kitchen, bar area and outside access.

This will lead to a more flexible arrangement for parties, weddings and events and thus help generate more much-needed income.

You can contribute towards restoring the Victoria Hall by donating through the trust’s website at middlewichcommunitytrust.org.uk.

You can also book the hall for events through the trust.

Cllr Samantha Moss has also set up a JustGiving page with a target of £6,000, at justgiving.com/crowdfunding/Middlewichcommunity.
