MIDDLEWICH regained the honours at the mayor’s charity boat pull on Sunday, with the Middlewich Round Table taking home the trophy.

The annual event, where teams of four race to pull a narrowboat along a 275-foot stretch of the canal in the fastest time, was hosted by Middlewich Narrowboats in partnership with Middlewich vision and the town council.

The all-male Middlewich Round Table team took the bragging rights from Sandbach Tyres, who had won last year’s event following on from another Sandbach victory in 2014.

Teams entered the event at a cost of £5 per team, with all money going to town mayor Cllr Pam Farrell’s chosen charities, supporting Macmillan, the stroke and paediatric epilepsy wards at Leighton Hospital and all uniformed children’s groups in Middlewich.

The day also featured a licensed bar, live music and weather befitting an outdoor event.

Cllr Farrell said: "The day was a massive success, with a great atmosphere and a good result for Middlewich Round Table."
