Queues on the M6 southbound, at junction 18 for Middlewich
ONE lane of the M6 South is due to remain closed for the rest of tonight, as work to repair a manhole cover continues.
The nearside lane, within the roadworks between junctions 18 and 17, has been closed since late afternoon causing long delays back past junction 19.
Highways England earlier said they were waiting for concrete to set before reopening the lane.
Normal traffic conditions are not likely to return until after midnight.
The incident follows a series of breakdowns and minor collisions, which caused delays on the southbound carriageway through most of Sunday.
