MIDDLEWICH Town Council has unveiled its orange Tour of Britain bike sculptures, and installed them on a roundabout entering the town.

The race storms through Middlewich on September 6, as part of the 182km third stage from Congleton to Tatton Park.

The upcycled orange bikes, designed by artist Deborah Moses, are now in place on the Holmes Chapel Road roundabout.

Each town that lies on the course, which is the only stage to take place entirely within one county, has contributed its own orange bike sculptures to represent its heritage.

Deborah has drawn inspiration from Middlewich’s Roman heritage and countryside location.

Middlewich Town Mayor Pam Farrell said: “We are very proud that the Tour of Britain will pass through Middlewich. Our statues have been created to feature our heritage and rural location.

“This is also a great opportunity for Middlewich to show off the town’s retail and commerce. We hope that local businesses will support us to take advantage of The Tour of Britain to promote themselves.”

Councillor David Brown, deputy leader of Cheshire East Council, said: “It is a great honour to have the Tour of Britain pass through Cheshire East. We are very proud to have been chosen to host such a prestigious event.

“We are especially delighted that the towns and villages, such as Middlewich, have the opportunity to showcase themselves to the nation.”

Riders will race up Nantwich Road into Middlewich, before heading south to Sandbach on Booth Lane.
