MIDDLEWICH will play host to a series of interactive heritage days, exploring the town’s history of salt making and the Normans.

September 10 and 11 will see a special public opening of the brine pumps site, as part of the nationally-acclaimed Heritage Open Days and ‘Revealing Murgatroyd’s’ project.

One of the UK’s last remaining intact brine pumps, the site is to be restored and begin life as an educational resource, supported by Historic England.

There will be guided tours, with the site open to explore an industry that stretched back to the Iron Age. Visit free of charge between 1pm and 4pm, with a guided walk – which must be pre-booked – from 1pm to 3pm on both days.

On September 24, coinciding with the Makers Market, travel back to the era of the Venables family – the Barons of Kinderton.

There will be a chance to learn about this remarkable family, and explore the era of the Normans, through living history, activities, displays, re-enactments and tours.

A family day, the event will take place between 10am and 3pm with free entry.
