ALL lanes have reopened following a collision involving two HGVs on the northbound carriageway this morning.

Police had earlier closed the motorway northbound at junction 17 following the accident, although the outer two lanes were re-opened at around 10am.

The inside lane remained closed for recovery and clear-up until just before 12.30pm, with delays remaining through the early afternoon.

Officers were called to an accident involving two HGV lorries on the M6 northbound at 5.20am this morning, July 8.

A full closure was put in place from 7am at junction 17 with diversions in place.

One driver is believed to have serious injuries, and police advised motorists to avoid the area.

Morning traffic was heavy through Holmes Chapel and Middlewich as a result.

Supt Peter Crowcroft said: "Police accident investigators are working at the scene alongside Highways England. I would like to thank motorists for their patience while we work to reopen the motorway."
