LEWIN Street was closed off in both directions for more than four hours last week as Cheshire Fire dealt with a collapsed chimney stack.
Brickwork tumbled down onto the pavement and nearside carriageway of Lewin Street from the roof of a property next door to Winsford Plant Hire, just a fifth of a mile from the fire station.
Middlewich engines attended the 'dangerous structure' at 6.14pm on Wednesday, June 8, first cordoning off the southbound footpath.
Firefighters then used ladders and safety equipment to climb onto the roof, working to clear the debris.
Police later closed the road both ways as hydraulic platform fire engines arrived from Stockton Heath and Macclesfield.
The platforms lifted firefighters up above the roof, where they removed the remainder of the loose structure before covering the chimney with plastic sheeting and leaving the scene shortly before 10.45pm.
