MIDDLEWICH High School will host its first ever Race for Life in support of Cancer Research UK this July.

The event, which will take place on July 11, will begin on the school playing fields before spilling out into the streets of Middlewich town centre for a parade involved the whole school.

Around 700 students and staff will walk, jog or run 5km, all while dressed as ‘Warriors against Cancer’.

Keith Simpson, head teacher at Middlewich High School, said: “The whole school is supporting the event so it will be a real team effort and a great day out for pupils and staff, all whilst raising money for a seriously good cause.

“Most of us know someone who has been touched by cancer and we all have our special reasons for taking part and wanting to help more people survive.

Cancer Research UK have provided a schools’ resource kit to help organisers, staff members Staff members Charlotte Walker and Diane Mansfield, stage the event.

This includes an assembly plan and fundraising tips, as well as sponsorship forms and finish line tape.

Rachel Carr, head of Race for Life, said: “We need young people to be the fundraisers of today – and walk, jog and run to help beat cancer sooner.”

In 2015, almost 2000 schools across the UK took part in Race for Life Schools, raising nearly £1 million.

It is now in its fifth year and is aiming to top £1 million in 2016.
