STUDENTS at Middlewich Primary School got into the royal spirit last week, celebrating the Queen’s 90th birthday with a garden party.
Staff, students and guests joined together at the Park Road school on Friday to enjoy afternoon tea of cucumber sandwiches and homemade cakes.
Musical performances from pupils provided a soundtrack to the day, while traditional games such as bowls, queenie and tin can alley were also played.
Deputy headteacher Gemma Reynolds said: "It was lovely and sunny and all went to plan, so a really successful day. The children had lots of fun and guests had a lovely time.
"They took to the games and had a really great time, and we all gave a rousing version of God Save the Queen."
Lucy, a year six pupil at the school, said: "I have found today fabulous and all of the children really enjoyed the games. It was a fantastic day."
Lucy and her classmates extended invitations to special guests from across the borough, who also enjoyed the festivities.
Middlewich mayor Ken Kingston said: "It has been wonderful. The children are great and the friendliness of everyone involved was heart-warming."
Councillor Olivia Hunter, mayor of Cheshire East, added: "I have been very impressed from getting out of the car. The children have been so welcoming."
