A HGV collision on the M6 northbound between junction 18 at Middlewich and junction 19 at Knutsford has closed the carriageway.
The accident, between a lorry a tanker and two cars, happened just after midday around one mile from Knutsford services heading northbound from Middlewich.
An air ambulance, paramedics and police were at the scene and where two people were trapped, one inside a HGV and one inside a car.
One person has suffered 'major trauma' and another has received minor injuries.
Both casualties have been taken to hospital by North West Ambulance Service.
Five fire engines were escorted to the scene by police along the opposite side of the motorway, but have since left.
Two lanes remain closed on the northbound carriage causing major delays.
