A DECISION on whether to grant permission for a gas-powered generation plant to be built in Middlewich will be made today.

The application, submitted to Cheshire East Council by GF Energy in November last year, seeks to build 20 containerised electricity generation units off ERF Way.

The site would act as a backup for the National Grid at peak times, providing energy to up to 10 million homes.

Cheshire East Council’s Southern Planning Board discussed the application on Wednesday, March 30, but deferred a decision on it due to having a lack of information such as CO2 emissions and no report from an environmental health officer.

Cllr Janet Clowes said at the time: “When we have something like this we do need more information to enable us to make an informed decision.”

The board is set to discuss the application and make a decision on Wednesday, April 27, at Crewe Municipal Buildings in Earle Street, Crewe.
