ANGRY Byley resident Steve Moran is calling for trees he says were felled recently to be replanted.

Mr Moran owns Stublach Training and Boarding Kennels, which is situated opposite Kings Lane firm Buchans Concrete Products.

He contacted the Guardian about what he said was the felling of woodland and boundary trees on Buchans’ land over Christmas and the new year.

Buchans was acquired by concrete products supplier FP McCann at the end of last year.

Mr Moran said he used to take pleasure in looking out towards the woodland, and boundary trees acted as a screen between his home and Buchans’ buildings.

“Every day I get up I feel privileged to live in a place like this, and from my bedroom I could see the woodland,” he said.

“I used to think ‘isn’t this brilliant?’, but now the area where the woodland was looks like something from a Second World War concentration camp, and I wonder if I’m living in a rural area or an industrial site.”

Mr Moran said his neighbours shared his concerns, and had asked him to act as spokesman for the area on the issue.

“There has been questions asked about this, and people are surmising, but nobody actually knows what’s going on,” he said.

“It’s about time people know this type of thing is happening, and everything which has been taken out needs to be replanted.

“This was all done over Christmas and the new year, and I’m fighting this 24 hours a day.

“I’ve been out here for 27 years, and want fair play and to see this sorted out.”

A Forestry Commission spokesman said: “We have investigated reports of suspected unlicensed tree felling on land in Kings Lane, Middlewich, including a site visit and taking relevant measurements to estimate the volume of felled trees.

“A decision on enforcement action will be made by our National Office for England.”

Councillor Mark Henesy, Cabinet Member for Environment and Community said: “The council is fully investigating the felling of trees on a site in Middlewich in partnership with the Forestry Commission and takes any allegations of breach of planning rules very seriously.

“Cheshire West and Chester Council has made a Tree Protection Order against the remaining trees on the site.”

The Guardian asked FP McCann for a comment on the alleged tree felling, but had not received a response by the time it went to press.
