THE Mid Cheshire Rail Campaign has had £1,000 dedicated to it in the Middlewich Town Council budget for this year.

The town council agreed on the final draft of the budget for this year on Monday, January 11, and decided to give its backing to the campaign by setting aside £1,000.

Jonathan Williams, Middlewich Town Council clerk, said: “The campaign is something that has come to the forefront more recently due to the Guardian’s involvement and maybe some new life within the campaign group and we thought they may want some funding to help out at some point in the year.

“The members decided £1,000 would be enough to put aside for that and it may not need to be used but it’s there in the budget in case that do.”

Cllr Samantha Moss, Mid Cheshire Rail Campaign secretary, is delighted with the decision from the town council.

She said: “It’s a positive step because the money will be for the creation of the business plan so we can fight out case.

“It’s great to see the support there from the town council. It’s clear they understand where we are coming from and can see the benefits we know are there.”
